My Content Creation Tools 2024

Hey there, content creators! Have you ever wondered what goes into making those slick videos and streams you see online?

Well, here's my personal content creation toolkit. From software to hardware, I'll walk you through the gear that helps me create high-quality content.

But remember, it's not about the tools—it's about what you do with them!

I made a similar post last year, and a few things have changed (either added or removed).

Software

Let's kick things off with the digital wizardry that makes content creation a breeze:

  • Descript (record video and edit by text!): This game-changer lets you edit your video content as easily as you'd edit a document. It's like magic for video editing!
  • Screenflow (records my Mac screen at 60fps): Perfect for tutorials and walkthroughs, Screenflow captures your screen in buttery-smooth 60 frames per second.
  • CapCut: A user-friendly video editor that's great for quick edits and social media content. It's packed with features and won't break the bank.
  • ScreenBrush (draw on your screen): Want to highlight something on your screen? ScreenBrush lets you doodle and annotate in real time.
  • Restream (stream to LinkedIn, YouTube, and wherever else you need to): This nifty tool lets you broadcast to multiple platforms simultaneously. More viewers, less hassle!

Now, let's get into the nitty-gritty of the physical gear. Fair warning: this setup is pretty advanced and might be overkill if you're just starting. It's always fun to dream, right?

Audio

  • Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording: This large-diaphragm condenser mic delivers crystal-clear audio. It's a favorite among podcasters and voiceover artists.
  • Elgato Wave XLR—Audio Mixer: This compact audio interface provides studio-quality sound and easy control over your audio sources.
  • XLR Mic Cable: This is a high-quality cable for connecting your mic to your audio interface. Don't skimp on cables!
  • RØDE PSA1 (Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm): This sturdy arm keeps your mic in the perfect position and out of your shot.
  • RØDE PSM1 (Microphone Shock Mount): This mount eliminates vibrations and handling noise, ensuring clean and professional audio.

Video

  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo: A powerful, pocket-sized camera that's perfect for vlogging and on-the-go content creation. It works as an amazing webcam via USB-C which is the main reason I've started using it.
  • Elgato Key Light: This product offers professional-grade lighting that makes you look your best on camera. It has adjustable brightness and color temperature for perfect illumination.
  • Elgato Solid Arm: A versatile mounting solution for your lights, cameras, or other gear.

Other

  • Elgato Stream Deck +: This customizable control panel puts all your streaming commands at your fingertips, making multitasking a breeze.

Now, here's the kicker: I GREW THIS OVER TIME! Over the past 5 years, to be exact.

Don't let your gear (or lack thereof) stop you from creating content. You've got a powerful camera and computer right in your pocket—your smartphone! Start with that. If you're doing informational content, a simple screen recording will do the trick. Loom is a free tool that's great for this.

Remember, fancy gear is nice, but it's not necessary to create fantastic content. The most important things are your ideas, passion, and willingness to put yourself out there. So don't make excuses – start creating with what you have, and upgrade your gear as you grow.

Whether you're using a pro setup or a smartphone, the most important thing is to get started and keep improving. Your audience is waiting for your unique voice and perspective. So go out there and make some awesome content!
